Our production

At Wik & Walsøe, we have always aimed to create collections that stand the test of time and that are with us in our everyday lives. Everyday lives now, and the everyday lives that will come after us. Our philosophy also includes the idea of contributing a little where it is needed most.

When we started Wik & Walsøe in 2006, we made a choice to produce in a country where money for food on the table is not a given. We traveled to Bangladesh.

Since then, we have spent a lot of time at the porcelain factory to create and design our unique expression, in collaboration with what have over time become close and dear colleagues. We have come to know many talented people with professional pride and professional knowledge. People who have shared their knowledge and life experience. They have allowed us to take part in a reality where our everyday problems fade. They have taught us to see reality from a more humble perspective. They have given new life to the concept of “taking care” – giving us a deeper understanding, and a desire, to strive for exactly that – to take care.

Around 60 pairs of hands are involved in making a Wik & Walsøe porcelain product. This gives each item its own story. If you look closely, you will discover tiny differences in shape, color or decoration. This is because our production is largely manual. We could have chosen to produce our porcelain in another country, in another factory, where much of the production is automated. There are many good ones. Then the products would perhaps be free of these small differences. We have chosen to embrace these small imperfections, which carry with them stories and moments from other people’s lives. For us, this helps to give each product its own unique touch – like snowflakes – where no two are exactly alike.

To meet the high demand for our Julemorgen products, we have recently expanded our production to India. This enables us to maintain our high quality while meeting the growing demand. In India, we work with skilled craftsmen who share our passion for quality and detail.

We can also tell you that many of these products contain stories of proud women and men working to create a secure future for their children.

For us, this is about taking care of those around us and those we surround ourselves with. “Taking care” is a responsibility we can all take part in, in our own way.
