Our filosophy: to take care of

How can a small Scandinavian design studio contribute to changing people’s attitudes towards what we surround ourselves with – is it even possible? For Wik & Walsøe, taking care of things is the most important thing we do.

One day, our children and grandchildren will inherit what we surround ourselves with, so we must take good care of it. We try to think the way farmers have always thought; you should pass on what you have received in slightly better condition than when you got it. And how do we achieve that?

Our philosophy is about taking care of what we have received and managing it well so that we can proudly pass it on. For us, high-quality products help create lasting values. With this philosophy at its core, we aim to inspire a mindset where small actions can make a big difference.

Inspired by nature and everyday moments

Wik & Walsøe is a Norwegian design studio that, inspired by and with deep respect for the untamed Scandinavian nature, creates porcelain and glass. The land and sea that we only have on loan, which we must take care of and pass on to the next generation.

Our porcelain is created to bring people together. Informal is probably the best description of the atmosphere we always strive for – whether it’s a modern or traditional tableware we shape. We want our products to be a natural part of everyday life and all of life’s small moments.

The story

Wik & Walsøe started as a business plan written on a bench in the garden. Since its inception in 2006, we have grown to become a strong voice in Scandinavian design. We have become an entire universe, with products already considered design classics.

From the garden bench, the journey took us to a simple shed in Fredrikstad, where we launched our debut collection with great success. From the beginning, we chose the Elf as our symbol because it represents the dream, hope, and belief in making the impossible possible.

This is how our story began – a dream of building a new Norwegian brand that, over time, would become a universe for elves, dreams, and memorable moments.

We wanted to design collections that would withstand the test of time and could live on for generations. Today, many years later, we still hold the same philosophy when designing and shaping products: high quality and lasting value.
